Jonathan Aner is a founding member of three different ensembles:
- The Oberon Piano Trio (Violin, Cello & Piano)
- The Brillaner Duo (Clarinet & Piano)
- The Esprit Trio (Soprano, Clarinet & Piano)
In this page you will find some more information about those ensembles:
| "Sound, music. Come, my queen, take hands with me, and rock the ground whereon these sleepers be." (William Shakespeare – Midsummer Night’s Dream) The Oberon Trio is a young and international ensemble, comprised of German violinist, Henja Semmler, American cellist, Julia Tom and Israeli pianist, Jonathan Aner. Despite the disparate backgrounds of its members and the relative youth of the trio, founded in 2006, all three players already have years of shared musical experiences. Henja and Jonathan studied together at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, while Julia and Henja have been playing and touring together for many seasons with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. |

However, it was only after the disbanding of their previous ensembles – Jonathan with the Tel Aviv Trio, Henja with the Kastalia Quartet and Julia with the Winterling Trio – that they finally were able to join efforts and found the Oberon Trio. Oberon, the king of the fairies in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, represents the world of magic, fantasy and delighted play. The members of the Oberon Trio, each from a different continent, have come together in this magical world of fantasy, expression and interplay. Representing no single musical school, they make music from their sense of curiosity and fresh discovery, and seek to transmit this music to their audience as something perpetually vibrant, personal and alive. |

Shirley Brill - Clarinet, Jonathan Aner - Piano “One soul and one breath, their performance was a completely sublime experience…” Praised as a “marvellously harmonious duo” (Berliner Morgenpost), the Brillaner Duo exemplifies the scientifically proven fact that the clarinet’s warm and humanly sound blends into the piano better than any other instrument. |

Their programs encompass the breadth of the clarinet-piano repertoire (featuring masterpieces of Brahms, Schumann, Weber, Poulenc) as well as the duo’s own arrangements for this medium (such as Mozart and Janacek’s violin sonatas). The duo is also passionate about contemporary music, and has premiered numerous pieces of young composers. The duo has taken part in the Schleswig-Holstein (Germany), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Eklisia (Turkey) and the Bangalow (Australia) Music Festivals, and collaborated with leading ensembles such as the Borromeo and the Jerusalem String Quartets. Committed to the engagement of new audiences, the duo often presents moderated concerts in a variety of community settings. Recently they have served on the faculty at the Yellow Barn Festival’s Young Artists Program and coached master classes in various conservatories and universities in Australia (including at the Melbourne University and the Australian National Academy of Music), Italy (Mahler Academy in Ferrara), Canada and Israel (Jerusalem Music Centre). The Brillaner Duo has been broadcast on numerous radio stations, including WQXR in New York, WGBH and many prominent radio stations in Europe (SWR, MDR, HR) and in Israel. Upcoming engagements include a recital at Beethoven Haus in Bonn, recordings for DeutschlandRadio Berlin and a tour in the US. The Esprit Trio, one of Israel’s most dynamic ensembles, is comprised of soprano Chen Reiss, clarinetist Shirley Brill, and pianist Jonathan Aner. After performing together as two separate duos (Ms. Reiss and Mr. Aner collaborating for over a decade, and Ms Brill and Mr Aner as the Brillaner Duo since 1999), it seemed only natural to join talents and form the Esprit Trio. Since its inception in 2004, the Esprit Trio has performed in such prestigious halls as the Berliner Philharmonie, Schloss Nymphenburg, Ludwigsburger Schloss, to name but a few. As individuals they have also performed as soloists with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the Baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta. They have all been, for much of their studies and careers, recipients of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and of the Ronen Foundation grants. |
